How to Tap Into Your Inner New Yorker -- Tip #1

This Texas girl recently spent a week in the Big Apple. It was cold and rainy, but that didn't stop me from soaking up much needed inspiration. There's something so magical about New York City -- you can't help but tap into your inner mogul and want to make major moves. Jay is absolutely right -- if you can make it in the city that never sleeps, you truly can make it anywhere.

For the next 8 days, I will be sharing with you some tips on how to tap into your own empire state of mind.

Here's your first tip --

Get on the prep team.

One of the thing that fascinates me about New York City is the amount of time it takes to get anywhere. Seriously. Manhattan is approximately 13.5 miles long and 2.3 miles at its widest. However, it is tremendo mission to get from the Lower East Side up to Harlem. Everyday millions of New Yorkers make shit happen. That's really all I can say. They make shit happen. Part of that is prep time -- thinking about what needs to be done that day/week and preparing themselves to execute (which includes thinking about what could possibly happen during the day). This is regular life, too. We aren't even talking about a special weekend workshop or strategy session.

Think about it: It's Monday. You live in Brooklyn and work in the Financial District. You normally take the 8 pm yoga class at a studio in the Upper West Side (because you love taking your favorite teacher's class). Today you need to Fed-ex a package and stop by Duane Reade to pick up some toiletries. There's an 80% chance of rain (which means you have to wear rain friendly gear and take your umbrella) and it's cold outside. Add that to the trains you're taking and the amount of walking you're going to be doing in a city jampacked with people on their own missions. 

Preparation is your friend. It really is the only way to make sure that shit happens. 

YT Pro Tip: On Sundays, set aside 30 minutes of your day to strategize your week. Identify what your top 3 priorities are for each day. At first, this may take more than 30 minutes. With consistency, you will get the hang of it and fly thru your Sunday session. Each morning, take 10 minutes to review your notes from your Sunday session and adjust as needed.
